The J39 Folkestolen, designed by the beloved Børge Mogensen, is one of the most iconic designs in Danish furniture architecture and one of the pieces that continues to inspire modern Danish design. The chair has achieved its iconic status through its versatility and simple yet perfected design, making it better known today as the 'people's chair'. And its versatility cuts across generations and interiors, in both private homes and public settings.
The chair's materials are carefully chosen to create a design that ages gracefully and lasts for decades, without going out of fashion or losing its beautiful expression. With a solid wood frame, beautiful modern lacquer finishes and visible joints, Fredericia Furniture shows that they are able to recreate the amazing craftsmanship that gives an authentic feel. The seat in natural paper weave is a classic in Børge Mogensen's famous design universe and contrasts beautifully with the solid wood while ensuring a fantastic seating experience.
Børge Mogensen was driven by the desire to create furniture that was functional, durable and accessible to everyone. He saw design as a way to improve everyday life, not as a luxury, but as a necessity. His philosophy was based on the idea of "furniture for the people" with a strong focus on functionality, craftsmanship and honest materials. He drew inspiration from both international folk traditions and historic Danish cabinet making and transformed it into simple, timeless designs in natural materials, especially wood and leather.
- Base in lacquered oak, oiled oak, soap treated oak, soap treated beech, lacquered beech or oiled walnut with seat in natural or black paper weave.
- When cleaning oiled wood, a mild solution of soap flakes or a cleaning agent for oiled wood surfaces is recommended. New oil must then be added to prevent the wood from drying out.
- When cleaning lacquered wood, a mild solution of soap flakes or all-purpose cleaner is recommended. Then polish with a dry soft cloth. Never leave liquids on varnished wood surfaces as this can cause the varnish to delaminate.
- When cleaning soap-treated and untreated wood, use a soft cloth wrung out in a mild solution of soap flakes. Always wipe in the grain direction of the wood. Never use water on untreated wood surfaces if it can be avoided
- Original design by Børge Mogensen, produced by Fredericia Furniture (1947)
