PASSION & PASTELS

A sustainable fashion ideal

In the Scandinavian fashion world today, bright pastels and eye-catching patterns are inevitable. The colourful trend has influenced both major fashion houses and the mainstream clothing industry, with collections being created in the spirit of pastels.
But in an era where sustainability usually comes before everything else, so-called 'fast-fashion', with environmentally damaging mass production, is looked down upon, and many turn their gaze to more sustainable alternatives instead. Over the past decade there has been a boom in brands promoting sustainable production, recycled materials and 'slow-fashion'.

The Danish brand SOLO UNO Studio is a shining example of this, and is an idealistic example of how love for fashion, creativity and innovation can be combined into design. Big Danish fashion influencers like Katrine Kæmsgaard Bidstrup (@katrinekaemsgaard) and Trine Kjær (@trinekjaer_), both known for their colourful and bold style, have already shown their love for the Danish brand.

Unique & Unisex

The Scandinavian pastel trend is the core of SOLO UNO Studio's design. Here, endless combinations of colours and patterns from different vintage tablecloths are being explored to highlight the unique qualities of each textile. The bright colours and floral motifs are inspired by the well-known Liberty & Laura Ashley textiles as well as American patchwork quilts.

The inspiration for the silhouettes of the shirts and blouses comes from the 'comfort-wear' trend, characterised by its relaxed unisex cut seen in nightshirts and blouses. The unisex cut gives the garment a new dimension of how fashion today is not limited by fit and trends, but rather embraces individuality as well as the love for the unique and one-of-a-kind.

From Aalborg to Italy

SOLO UNO Studio was founded in Gistrup near Aalborg, Denmark and has slowly found its way into several stores across Denmark. But before the company was founded, the production of the unique shirts and blouses started as a common interest for the duo Rikke Rørbæk and Kristine Rørbæk Vognsen.

The mother-daughter duo both share a love for fashion and clothes, so SOLO UNO was a dream project for both of them. A vision to create unique pieces of clothing, where quality was a priority in every single design, was the starting point for SOLO UNO Studio. And the name therefore became an image of their trademarks, which in Italian translates to 'only one'.

After all, the Italian is central when it comes to the brand's choice of textiles. The unique textiles are found among Italian vintage tablecloths, which mother and daughter personally select and are then tailored in Denmark. Good craftsmanship is important to the Rørbæk duo, who dream of creating clothes that will remain part of one's wardrobe for a lifetime.
