The Danish furniture architect Hans J. Wegner (1914-2007) was one of the most prolific designers in world history. On 2 April 2014 he would have been 100 years old and the occasion is marked by the monograph 'WEGNER - bare een god stol'.
On the occasion of Wegner's centenary, Designmuseum Danmark is showing the exhibition 'WEGNER - bare een god stol'. A monograph with the same title, written by the museum's head of exhibitions and collections, Christian Holmsted Olesen, will be published at the same time. As the first researcher ever, he has gained access to a unique source material in Wegner's archives. And years of research and writing have now culminated in a beautifully illustrated monograph that tells the story of Wegner's career from genius carver to international icon designer.
'WEGNER - jbare men god stol' is based on interviews, written sources, films, sketches, drawings and original photographs from Wegner's design studio. The book provides a unique overview of the development of Wegner's work and of the most important trends in Danish and foreign furniture design from the 1930s to the present day.
