In this collaboration between HAY and designer Ann Sophie von Bülow, founder of Kyoto Tange, the popular designer's acclaimed jewelry design is combined with whimsical colors from HAY's design universe. The bracelets have the perfect harmony between the modern and playful expression and can therefore be used both for home decoration and as jewelry.
In 2016, Ann Sophie von Bülow participated in an artistic residency in the south of France and worked on a project about the Irish architect Eileen Gray and her relationship with the English occultist Aleister Crowley. The property was surrounded by lavender fields that she would nurture every day, collecting the lavender and stuffing it into bags she shaped from vintage kimono fabric. She ended up selling a collection of these little pillows at home in Copenhagen. Long after they were sold out and the stay was over, von Bülow's fascination with Eileen Gray continued, and her famous E-1027 house remains.
"The lacquered surfaces on Gray's screens and furniture were the direct sources of inspiration for my bracelets," says von Bülow about the minimal, color-blocked bracelets she has created over the past year. The name of her label is Kyoto Tango, a nod to the Japanese vintage textiles she worked with in the south of France. Von Bülow also cites African pottery and Agnes Martin's work as inspiration. The bracelets are currently sold for up to $ 250 and are sold at small independent retailers in the Middle East, Europe and the United States.
